What is gastronomy?
gas·tron·o·my
/ɡaˈstränəmē/
noun
the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food.
culinary customs or style; takes into account the cultural, social, and historical aspects of food
As a Clinical Nutritionist I am familiar with the impact of gluten on the body for those who have various issues. As a person, I myself have avoided gluten (and dairy) for probably 30 years and my children have chosen to follow suit as regards gluten. As a member of the women’s culinary and hospitality group Les Dames d’Escoffier, I like to eat and enjoy good food. How does one combine all that and still enjoy traveling?
Now as a sort of retired people, my husband and I hope to carpe diem and travel more. I take all sorts of supplements with me hoping to avoid or manage digestive upsets, but I know those of us who watch what’s in our food might prefer to avoid the issue altogether.
I thought it might be fun and helpful to chronicle some of the places I have found that are pleasant on the palate and easy on the digestive tract. I don’t plan this to be a comprehensive guide as there are several resources out there already. I am not Celiac so those with that issue might wish to verify the strictness of the restaurants I write about, however, I do prefer to highlight those establishments I feel truly desire to offer an alternative for the gluten-challenged, and offer an unforgettable, though not necessarily fancy, dining experience.
If you find yourself following my travel footsteps, I hope this can give you a few ideas
of where you can enjoy a good meal with confidence.
