PHARM TABLE, San Antonio, TX
It is such a relief when I can go to a restaurant and know that everything on the menu is totally gluten and dairy-free. That the food is healthy is a boon to my nutritionist soul. That the food is tasty is a boon to my Dames d’Escoffier culinary soul and the chef/owner here is a fellow Dame.
Gluten-free Travel: PAESANO’S, San Antonio, Tx
Well….I didn’t want to write about too many San Antonio restaurants, but after a visit to Paesano’s on the Riverwalk, an iconic institution for 58 years, I had to give in.
Gluten-Free Travel: CASA OAXACA (Oaxaca City, Mexico)
A visit to Oaxaca City, Mexico in May 2024 found our group dining at Casa Oaxaca. While older menus online don’t show this, I was relieved to find the menu gave a guide to dishes that were gluten-free, vegan, etc.
Gluten-Free Travel: KATE’S ICE CREAM, Portland, Oregon
OK, don’t judge me, but anytime I am in Portland, Oregon visiting my kids I NEED to go to Kate’s Ice Cream. Kate’s lists itself as “seriously great plant-based & gluten-free ice cream”.
Gluten-Free Travel: PIER Capetown, South Africa
To ensure there is an entry for “Everywhere Else” I went back to our travel in the Fall of 2023 to South Africa and Victoria Falls. It’s hard to forget an experience with a Michelin-rated restaurant and this is one my husband sought out before we went to South Africa.
MIXTLI (San Antonio, Texas)
Having just returned from Oaxaca, Mexico, I was afraid that I would be eating the same food at this special experience, but I was wrong. I actually thought that Mixtil did it better!
